The circular staircase that fills the void in the centre of the building is a key element of the design.
The staircase provides a focal point and a structure with some substance within the large open space. It provides a focal point within the space and is a key element that can be used to express various material qualities within the building.
The staircase is seen as an element of the design that can be sculptural and beautiful. It will consist of precast concrete treads and risers and sculptural, metal balustrades and railings. The combination of the two elements will further emphasise the contrast between concrete and metal and the combination of new and older materials.
Due to limitations in revit, and a lack of time, the staircase is not as sculptural as i would have liked and the form is simply circular. However, i still think it is quite effective in filling the void and providing an interesting structure within the interior spaces.
