Facades

FACADES.

The various external surfaces on the building are a key aspect that can influence its materiality and the perception of passers by.

As previously mentioned, the north facing facade will employ a metal shading device. This is boast an artwork of the story bridge and the Brisbane cityscape. A combination of perforations, cut outs and overlays will form the structure and create an interesting texture on the building skin.

Examples of these sort of facade treatments are shown below.

The above images indicate and show how manipulations and perforations in the metal can create patterns. These perforations will allow light into the building and create an interesting shadow pattern.

The second notable facade is the timber portion of the building. Numerous examples have already been explored in previous posts, however, the images below represent some of the characteristics that I want to portray in the final design.

The image above shows the contrast between timber and metal skins. The effect is beautiful.

The two images above provide an example of the translucency that timber can offer.

Openings within the timber skin can also be interesting. The top image shows an example of sliding shutters. A similar device can be used to black out the workshop space.
